OUTKAST, ATLANTA’s premiere space-funk hiphop duo, performed at LONDON OCEAN last night (June 4) in front of an audience that included FAITHLESS, LISA ROXANNE boxer LENNOX LEWIS, DAMON ALBARN and STELLA McCARTNEY.

Introduced by DJ and MTV personality Trevor Nelson, the duo of Andre 3000 and Big Boi – dressed in personally-designed Levi’s – took the stage just after 10pm and powered through a blistering one-hour set mainly comprising songs from their multi-million selling album ‘Stankonia’, as well as tracks from previous albums, including ‘Da Art Of Storytelling’, ‘Slump’ and ‘Rosa Parks’ from their ‘Aquemini’ album.

They were accompanied by the four burly male dancers known as The Crowd Pleasers in Outkast sportswear, backing singers, guitarists and DJ Cutmaster Swiff.

Andre 3000 danced animatedly around the small stage throughout songs like ‘Gasoline Dreams’, current single ‘So Fresh, So Clean’, and their breakthrough hit ‘B.O.B’, while

Big Boi – wearing a jacket with his initials on it – gamely performed some routines with the ‘dancers’.

Support came from UK hiphop producer/DJ Skitz, homegrown soul sensation Marisa Anglin and DJ Harvey’s Rollerdisco.

The gig, sponsored by Levi’s Engineered Jeans, was invite only and saw the majority of London’s hiphop and fashion community in the audience.

It was their first UK gig after the cancellation of their Eminem support in February, due to the birth of Big Boi’s third child.

OutKast have two further shows lined up in London this month, at the Astoria on June 21 and Brixton Academy on 22.
