But there is some confusion over the single
Outkast have revealed that they will release their new album on December 5.
‘Idlewild’ – the soundtrack to the rap duo’s long-delayed film of the same name – will be preceded by the single ‘Idlewild Blues’, according to Big Boi.
“Me and Dre (Andre 3000) got the new Outkast album coming out December 6. It’s called ‘Idlewild’, and the first single is called ‘Idlewild Blues’. I’m dead serious, we’re cocked and loaded. The movie’s done too. And it’s crazy.”
However, according to the band’s label LaFace Records, the first single from the LP has not yet been confirmed and there is no date for a digital release, which contradicts Big Boi’s statement that ‘Idlewild Blues’ would be available on the internet sometime this month.
However, the rapper has revealed further details about Outkast’s film ‘Idlewild’, telling MTV News: “The movie is dope. It’s like an Outkast album but on film, which will make the fans happy. It’s like two stories going at the same time. I’ve seen two rough cuts, and it’s outstanding. We’ve got Ving Rhames, Ben Vereen, Cicely Tyson, Terrence Howard, Patti LaBelle. We would show up every day suited and booted thanks to Mr Giorgio Armani. Tailor-made to fit.”
November will also see the release of another Outkast related project – ‘Big Boi Presents Got Purp? Volume 2’, the first through his new Purple Ribbon label.
Out on November 21, the LP will showcase a host of artists the rapper is calling his ‘Purple Ribbon All-Stars’, including Sleepy Brown, Bubba Sparxx and Killer Mike.
The first track to come from the album is called ‘I’m On It’, though Big Boi said that it previously had a different moniker.
He explained: “It was originally called ‘Kryptonite’. But for some reason, MTV wouldn’t let us say it, so we had to change it. What can you do, y’know?”
