Outkast take over The London Eye

To launch album

Outkast launched their new album ’Idlewild’ at The London Eye last night (July 25).

The Atlanta duo played tracks from the soundtrack album simultaneously through 28 pods of the giant ferris wheel.

The unconventional launch was followed by a aftershow party on the Silver Sturgeon ship – a 61-metre cruise liner, attended by both Andre 3000 and Big Boi.

’Idlewild’ – the follow up to 2003’s ’Speakerboxxx/The Love Below’ – will be released on August 21. While the first single from the album, ’Morris Brown’, is set to be released on September 4.

Andre 3000 spoke about mixing the period theme of the film with the band’s hip hop style: “We understood it was a 1930s period piece, but also understood that it was an Outkast album,” he said

“It doesn’t sound like a retro 1930s thing, it sounds fresh and new. Kind of mixing up the two.”

He told BBC6 Music: “It’s our seventh album, so some of the old, some of the new, you know, so check it out.”

As previously reported by NME.COM, the film ’Idlewild’ is due to come out in cinemas on September 8.
