Paul McCartney and Manic Street Preachers to play intimate free gigs for BBC 6 Music

Polica, Sigur Ros and Goldfrapp will also perform live at the BBC's Maida Vale studios next month

Paul McCartney and Manic Street Preachers are to play intimate free gigs at the BBC’s Maida Vale studios in north-west London next month.

Polica, Sigur Rós and Goldfrapp will also perform at Maida Vale during this year’s 6 Music Live sessions, which take place from October 14-18. Lauren Laverne will host the week-long series of live sessions and announced the line-up on her 6 Music show yesterday (September 20).

Polica will kick off this year’s sessions on the Monday (October 14), followed by Goldfrapp on Tuesday (15), McCartney on Wednesday (16), Manic Street Preachers on Thursday (17) and Sigur Rós on Friday (18). Tickets are available for free on the 6 Music Website and registration will be open until 7pm next Friday (September 27).

McCartney will release his latest album ‘New’ on October 14, two days before he takes to the stage at Maida Vale. The album features production from Mark Ronson, Paul Epworth and Ethan Johns, who has previously worked with Kings Of Leon and Laura Marling. Long-term McCartney collaborator Giles Martin also features on the album’s production credits.

“You can imagine how excited we are about this,” Laverne said of McCartney’s 6 Music Live session. “There is nobody bigger and nobody better. What a tiny intimate place to see Paul McCartney playing live. And he’s always brilliant live, of course – he’s Paul McCartney”.
