Paul McCartney and Adele top musicians’ rich lists

The former Beatle is worth £680m according to the Sunday Times Rich List

Paul McCartney and Adele have topped the Sunday Times Rich List polls of the wealthiest musicians.

The former Beatle shares an estimated £680 million fortune with his wife Nancy Shevell, according to the researchers who put the list together. Shevall, who is the heiress to a US transport firm is said to be worth £150 million alone. Macca has topped the poll each year since it was first put together in 1989, when his fortune was then estimated at £80 million.

Andrew Lloyd Webber came second with £620m, while Irish rock band U2 came third, with £520m. The Spice Girls’ Victoria Beckham, who shares an estimated £200m fortune with her husband David also features in the top 10 along with Black Sabbath’s Ozzy Osbourne and his wife Sharon. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin also appears, sharing his fortune with his wife, actress Gwyneth Paltrow.

Meanwhile, Adele has topped the Young Music Rich List poll with a fortune estimated at £30 million. The singer made £10 million in the last year, despite taking much of it off to recover from a throat operation and have a baby. Former Girls Aloud singer and X Factor judge Cheryl Cole came in second place with an estimated worth of £14 million. Florence And The Machine’s Florence Welch and Lily Allen also appear in the poll’s top 10.
