Sir Paul McCartney fights against kangaroo killing

Macca is joining the campaign against Australian cull

Sir Paul McCartney has added his support to a campaign to halt the culling of kangaroos in Australia.

The former Beatle is fighting against the proposed culling of 500 kangaroos near a military base close to the Australian capital of Canberra.

Speaking on behalf of animal rights group Viva!, McCartney, a well-known, long-term vegetarian, said: “There is an urgent need for action to protect kangaroos from a barbaric industry which slaughters them for meat and leather.”

The animals are set to be culled due to their reported impact on other species in the area.

Viva! has also long fought a battle against the killing of kangaroos for meat, which is exported from Australia to a host of countries, including the UK.
