The legend's second wife Heather is expecting the couple's first child...

Paul McCartney is to become a father for the fifth time, as it was announced yesterday (May 28) that his wife HEATHER is expecting the couple’s first child later this year.

The sixty-year old former Beatle and his ex-model wife Heather Mills McCartney, 34, announced in a statement, “We are delighted with this happy news.”

This news ends weeks of speculation that Mills McCartney was pregnant. The couple married in Castle Leslie in Glaslough, Ireland last year on June 11.

Paul McCartney‘s brother, Mike, told ITV; “It will bring a breath of life to the McCartney family. Us McCartneys are very good at being dads.”

Heather Mills McCartney recently expressed fears that she would not be able to conceive following health problems. She explained to television interviewer Michael Parkinson about the press speculation, “They said I had been pregnant, which is really hurtful, knowing that I have had cancer of the uterus and two ectopic pregnancies.”

She the held her thumb and finger an inch apart, and said: “The chances of me getting pregnant are about that much – and I’m sure for any woman out there it is hard enough when your family keeps saying, ‘When are you going to have a baby, then?’, never mind the whole world keeps saying, ‘Oh, she’s pregnant this week.”

Paul McCartney is already father to Mary, 33, Stella, 31, and James, 25, and stepfather to Heather, 39. His first wife, Linda, died from cancer in 1998.
