The former Beatle clears £30million for 27 dates in US...

Former Beatle Paul McCartney‘s recent well received ‘Driving Rain’ tour of the US has been named the biggest money spinner of the year so far, sucking in a whopping $52.8million (£33.9million) in ticket sales.

Us trade magazine Pollstar put Sir Elton John and Billy Joel’s joint tour at number two with earnings of $44.4m (£28.5m).

During his 27 date run through 20 cities, Paul McCartney fans paid an average of $108.70 (£69.87) a ticket. Elton John and Joel played 23 shows in eight cities with an average ticket price of $129.59 (£83.27). They could have finished top of the earnings heap had Joel’s health problems not forced the postponment of 10 shows until the autumn.

Other veterans including Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and The Eagles also finished in the top 10 earnings list.
