The ex-Beatle wants to play some low-key shows to show off his new material...

PAUL McCARTNEY has hinted he will perform a series of low-key shows in the run-up to the release of a new studio album later this year.

McCartney has previously revealed that he is working on a new studio album, which will be released in September following the release of his Wings anthology, ‘Wingspan’, issued earlier this month.

Now, according to the Reuters news service, the former Beatles songwriter has said that it would be “good” to go out on the road with a new band for a series of impromptu shows around that time.

He said: “That would be good. I do fancy that actually…I think it is very likely that I might tour around then. I like to go out on the road with a new album and I’m very excited by this one.

“I’ve been recording it in the States and we recorded 18 tracks in just two weeks. Recording new songs makes you enthuse and want to get out and play them.”
