NME.COM can exclusively reveal where all the top DJs, including CARL COX, PETE TONG, PAUL OAKENFOLD and DARREN EMERSON, are going to be playing out the year 2000.
After last year’s fiasco, where many DJs gigs were cancelled at the last minute due to poor ticket sales, many of the biggest British DJs have opted to travel overseas this year.
Carl Cox is heading off to South Africa for a double header which takes in gigs in both Johannesberg and Cape Town. Sasha and John Digweed, meanwhile, are both heading for the Antipodean delights of Australia. Sasha plays on Bondi Beach, just outside Sydney, with Radio 1’s Pete Tong, before flying straight over to Melbourne to finish the night. Similarly, Digweed plays across town from Sasha at the Olympic Hall, before joining his occasional DJ partner in Melbourne for a 4.30-6am set.
Basement Jaxx continue the cross-continental theme, with a date in San Francisco that also features chart-topping soulster Macy Gray, while ex-Underworld man Darren Emerson will be jetting off to play the legendary Zouk club in Singapore.
Back in the UK, Judge Jules looks like being the busiest man in the country with a staggering four gigs, the first beginning at 5.30pm on December 31 and the last finishing at 7am on the morning of January 1, 2001. Jules begins with a live Radio 1 broadcast from Gatecrasher in Belfast at the Odyssey Arena, before travelling to Gatecrasher at The Republic in Sheffield for the midnight set. He then moves on to Golden at the Manchester Academy, before ending up at God’s Kitchen in Birmingham.
Staying up north, Paul Oakenfold joins Seb Fontaine and Timo Maas for Cream’s event at Nation, before travelling down south to play the Ministry of Sound’s event at the Millennium Dome, London. He’ll be joining The Dreem Team, who will be broadcasting live on Radio 1 between 1am and 3am. Finally, after two years of very high profile events, Fatboy Slim will be seeing the new year in with his wife and new-born baby.
