Paul Simon and his wife, the singer Edie Brickell, have appeared in court following their arrest on Saturday (April 26).
Simon was arrested alongside Brickell and charged with disorderly conduct following what is being described as a “family dispute”.
Sky News reports that the couple held hands as they appeared at Norwalk Superior Court in Connecticut on Monday (April 28), where Simon told the judge that it was a rare argument that led to their arrests.
Police arrived at the singers’ New Canaan home after receiving a 911 call from the property. Police discovered what they believed was a case of domestic violence upon their arrival. Simon and Brickell both said they did not feel threatened by the other following the arrest.
Speaking in court Simon said: “Both of us are fine together. We had an argument and it’s fairly atypical of us; neither of us has any fear or any reason to feel threatened and I don’t feel I need to be protected.”
Brickell, who fronted Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, is Simon’s third wife. The couple were married in 1992 and have three children.
