The Modfather's expected to perform with the Stereophonics singer in Bath...
PAUL WELLER is hotly tipped to be joining STEREOPHONICS vocalist KELLY JONES at his solo show in BATH this evening (November 16), NME.COM can exclusively reveal.
Jones will play the Bath Pavilion as part of his ongoing solo tour, where he is premiering material from Stereophonics’ third album ‘JEEP’.
Speaking previously about his solo dates, Jones hinted that various people would be joining him on stage for encores. He said: “In the encores we’re gonna try and bring some people on wherever we have to be. The Dublin one’s organised – big eyebrows – but that could be me though!”
Sources close to Jones have told NME.COM this morning that Weller will be the next star to join him on stage. A spokesperson for Weller could not confirm or deny the rumours, while a spokesperson for Jones said the appearance was “a possibility”.
Weller and Jones have already shared a stage this year. At the London Brixton Academy 15th Birthday Party on May 21, Jones played guitar and sang vocals on an encore of Weller’s ‘Woodcutter’s Son’ from the 1995 album ‘Stanley Road’.
The pair’s friendship can be traced back to May 1999, when Stereophonics performed a Kosovo benefit concert at the London Kentish Town Forum at the personal invitation of Weller’s sister, Nicky.
As exclusively revealed on NME.COM, Jones was joined on the first date of his tour at the Dublin Vicar St venue on Monday (November 13) by Oasis members Noel Gallagher and Gem Archer for versions of Oasis’ ‘Live Forever’ and Stereophonics’ ‘I Wouldn’t Believe Your Radio’.
MP3s of the Dublin show are currently available on the unofficial Stereophonics website, [url=]www.stereophonicsweb.com.
Following the Bath date this evening, Jones will continue his UK tour at:
Glasgow Old Fruit Market (November 18)
Queen’s Hall Edinburgh (19)
York Opera House (21)
Birmingham Irish Centre (22)
Cardiff Coal Exchange (24)
