Paul Weller launches guitar campaign

The Modfather is doing his bit for charity

Paul Weller has launched a campaign to build giant guitars for charity.

The former Jam singer is backing the Gibson GuitarTown London exhibition, to build 30 free standing fibreglass guitars across the capital by next summer.

Each 10ft sculpture will be endorsed and designed by a host of musicians, including Brian May, before they are displayed around the city for 12 weeks from June 1 2007.

Following the exhibition all 30 Gibson Les Paul guitars will be auctioned off for The Prince’s Trust, Nordoff-Robbins and the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Speaking about the campaign, Weller said: “I am proud to be associated with the Gibson GuitarTown London campaign as it combines my passion and appreciation for the guitar, whilst raising money and awareness for three very worthy and deserving charities.”
