Pearl Jam‘s drummer Jack Irons will not be on tour in the US with the band this summer due to mystery “health reasons”. He’s been temporarily replaced by former Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron.
A band statement released on Pearl Jam’s website The Rumour Pit states: “It’s unfortunate that Jack is not able to perform with us this summer, and we hope he gets well soon. However, we are very focused on the upcoming tour, and we are all excited about playing with Matt.”
Cameron will make his live debut with Pearl Jam next Friday (May 1) when the band perform on the 1,000th episode of The Late Show With David Letterman. Pearl Jam also play the US Tibetan Freedom Concert in Washington on June 13 & 14, before commencing a US tour on June 20. A full UK tour is planned for the end of this year.
The band’s UK spokesman could not confirm or deny rumours that Pearl Jam would appear at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, however. He told NME: “They will be touring the US then, but they do have a gap in their schedule. Quite a few bands fly in to Glastonbury, play a gig and fly off again afterwards.”
Meanwhile, Pearl Jam release ‘Wishlist’ as a single on May 11, the latest track lifted from their current album ‘Yield’.
