Pet Shop Boys to receive Outstanding Contribution Award at BRITS

Duo's career set to be celebrated at 2009 ceremony

Pet Shop Boys are to receive the Outstanding Contribution To Music Award at the 2009 BRIT Awards.

The synth-pop duo, whose first single ‘West End Girls’ was released in 1984, will be honoured at the event which takes place at London‘s Earls Court Arena on February 18.

Previous recipients of the award include Oasis, Paul McCartney and David Bowie.

Since forming in London in 1981, Pet Shop Boys have released over fifty singles including ‘Rent’ and ‘Being Boring’.

Bandmembers Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe are currently in the studio with Xenomania working on a new album, which is set for release in 2009.
