Pete Doherty says that drugs have ruined his life

The Libertines singer admits that "my past life is a mess"

Pete Doherty has spoken out about his drug use, saying addiction has ruined his life.

Speaking in The Daily Star, Doherty explained that he has “caused so much crap” because of his drug taking.

“I would like to get rid of the damn drugs,” he commented. “It’s no longer fun. On the contrary, it’s just shit and kills all my creativity. But it’s difficult to stop. My past life is a fucking mess, a real mess.”

He continued, expressing remorse for his behaviour. “Its gone wrong in so many ways. Although I don’t believe in regrets – ’cause that offers nothing – but clearly some things I would like to change. I wish I had better contact with my family. I have caused so much crap.”

The Libertines recently announced plans to reunite, with a show at the British Summer Time festival in Hyde Park, London, on July 5. The band will warm up for the gig playing the 2,000 capacity Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow on June 29 and they will also headline the Spanish Benicàssim Festival on July 19 on a line-up that includes Lily Allen, Example and Manic Street Preachers.

Speaking to NME recently about The Libertines forthcoming London show, Doherty said he was thinking about finishing off some of the band’s older material for the occasion. “We were talking about doing some new songs,” he explained. “Or even better, finishing some old songs that we always knew should have been on ‘Up The Bracket’ if we could have been arsed. I could hum them and Carl would know about them.”
