Doherty also says he was 'bang in love' with Winehouse as soon as he saw her
Doherty, who revealed last year (2012) that he and Winehouse had been lovers, told Q: “I was a little bit in awe of the girl, you know? We’d jam and she’d take the piss. ‘Is that your best new riff?’ or ‘You’re not really a singer, are you?'”
Continuing, Doherty admitted that he experienced something akin to love at first sight when he first met Winehouse. “I think I was bang in love with Amy from when I first saw her. And then, bang, the queen is dead. But Amy’s music, that was glory, not tragedy,” he added.
Meanwhile, Doherty has recently revealed that he’s not currently in contact with Carl Barât, dashing hopes of a reunion for The Libertines anytime soon. The admission came during an interview in this week’s issue of NME, available digitally and on newsstands now, in which Doherty also confessed he’d “have to lose a hand” to give up drugs.
His band Babyshambles release their new album ‘Sequel To The Prequel’ on September 2, preceded by the single ‘Nothing Comes To Nothing’ on August 26. Speaking to NME about the album recently, Doherty vowed: “I don’t want this to be half arsed, I want to get up there and really fucking smash it out. Babyshambles aren’t back – this band has always been here.”
