Pete Doherty set to record with ‘close friend’ Carla Bruni?

Nicolas Sarkozy's wife has apparently forged a 'bond' with Babyshambles man

Pete Doherty and French first lady Carla Bruni are set to make music together after becoming close friends – if one tabloid is to be believed, that is.

According to the Sunday Mirror, French president Nicolas Sarkozy‘s wife wrote to the Babyshambles man asking to meet him earlier this year.

And after meeting “several times” they have apparently “really hit it off”, regularly sending each other letters and speaking on the phone.

Andrew Boyd, who has managed Doherty, told the newspaper:

Pete has got to know Carla, and they have a real connection.

Meanwhile, a ‘friend’ of The Libertines man added:

They’ve really hit it off and are likely to make music together at some point in the future. Pete thinks very highly of her.

Bruni, who married Sarkozy in 2008, has released three French language albums over the past eight years, selling more than two million copies in the process.

Doherty may have plenty of opportunities to develop his ‘friendship’ with Bruni further when he plays a French tour later this year.

He’s got dates in Paris, Toulouse, Annemasse, Monaco, Lyon, Rouen. Amiens and St Quentin booked in across September, October and November.

Doherty will also headline the Festival Republic Stage at Reading And Leeds Festival next month, along with playing a UK and Ireland tour.
