Pink fan arrested at Australian concert after tweeting ‘bomb threat’

Teenager apprehended by police at Melbourne gig after offending message is posted on social media

A Pink fan was arrested upon arrival at one of her concerts after naïvely tweeting to say he was bringing a bomb to the show.

The 16-year-old Australian is now facing criminal charges after being ejected from the Rod Laver Arena on Sunday night, Billboard reports. Staff at the Melbourne arena recognised the teenager from his Twitter picture after seeing the tweet, which was tagged with the official Rod Laver Arena hashtag and read: “@Pink I’m ready with my Bomb. Time to blowup #RodLaverArena Bitch.” The tweet has since been deleted.

After being arrested by police and released, the teenager spoke to the local press about what he meant by the tweet, explaining that it was a reference to Pink’s song ‘Timebomb’ and not a threat. “It was meant to be about drop the effects, the music, everything – just drop it all,” he said.

The boy’s sister also spoke out about the incident, defending her brother to the Herald Sun. Explaining how her brother had travelled from his home in Warrnambool to attend the gig, but ended up missing the entire show while he waited for his parents to make the three-hour trip to pick him up, she said: “We don’t think it should be going to court because of the way they handled him. They pulled him, they threw him on the ground and locked him up.”

“We had to go there at midnight to sort it out and we thought we had to bail him, we thought he’d been killed, we didn’t know what to think,” she added. “It was freezing cold, and he didn’t mean it like that. He wrote it as in one of her songs is called ‘Timebomb’ and he forgot to put the Time on there. We are a decent family and we don’t have bombs and stuff like that. We’re not terrorists and we don’t want people to think that.”

Pink has yet to comment on the incident.
