The Official Chart Company has announced details of the first ever download chart.
Launching on September 1, the chart hopes to capitalise on the huge success of downloading across the UK in the wake of the launch of legal download services this year.
The company has signed a two year deal with ‘Coca-Cola’, and the chart will collate data from all the biggest legal music download sites in the UK including www.mycokemusic.com, Napster and iTunes.
Peter Jamieson, BPI Chairman said: “Accessing music through legal downloading is a major part of the future of music and should be represented with its own chart.
“The launch of the Official Download Chart this September demonstrates the growing maturity of the legal download market in the UK.”
The first test chart is topped this week by the Pixies‘ ‘Bam Thwok’, a track made available exclusively through iTunes.
