Pixies have announced a six-date UK tour to support new album ‘Head Carrier’.
The shows follow their recent one-off gig at Brixton Academy, where they previewed four new songs from ‘Head Carrier’: its title track, new single ‘Um Chagga Lagga’, ‘Baal’s Back’ and ‘Classic Masher’. The new tour also includes two gigs at the same London venue.
Tickets for the new tour go on pre-sale from Pixies’ website at 10am tomorrow (July 20) and on general sale at 10am on Friday July 22.
‘Head Carrier’, released on September 30, is Pixies’ first album since 2014’s ‘Indie Cindy’ and is their first with former Zwan bassist Paz Lenchantin as their official bassist. Lenchantin began playing with Pixies after The Muffs singer Kim Shattuck lasted five months in 2013 as replacement for original bassist Kim Deal.
Pixies said when ‘Head Carrier’ was announced that it was their first album since the band’s early days that they’ve had the luxury to rehearse the songs fully before recording. Drummer David Lovering said: “It was a wonderful luxury to have the time to be able to really work these new songs out. By the time we started recording, we all knew the songs backwards and forwards. So it took half as long to make this album as it did to make ‘Indie Cindy’.”
Pixies will play:
Brixton O2 Academy (November 28-29)
Leeds O2 Academy (30)
Glasgow Barrowlands (December 2)
Newcastle O2 Academy (3)
Manchester O2 Apollo (4)
