Plan B to star in remake of ‘The Sweeney’

Ben Drew says it's a 'dream come true' to act alongside Ray Winstone

Plan B has signed up for one of the lead roles in a movie remake of The Sweeney.

The singer – real name Ben Drew – will star as Detective Sergeant George Carter, a role which was made famous by Dennis Waterman in the original 1970s cop show.

Drew told The Sun that starring alongside Ray Winstone – who is set to play his Flying Squad boss DI Jack Regan – is a “dream come true”.

He also praised director Nick Love, who is known for his work on films such as The Football Factory and The Business.

“He [Winstone] is one of my favourite British actors of all time. I’m really excited about working with Nick Love in what I feel will be a challenging role for me to play,” Drew commented.

The Sweeney is expected to hit cinema screens in summer 2012.

Plan B has also been in the director’s chair in recent months– he began shooting his first full-length feature film Ill Manors last September.

He recently told NME that he expects to release the movie in January 2012.
