Asked by Pitchfork what his least favourite thing about playing a European festival was, Barrow replied: “Playing next to Coldplay, with their water cannons or fucking fireworks or whatever the fuck it is. Come on.”
Barrow also singled out Bruno Mars for criticism, arguing that Portishead should not be appearing on the same bill as the ‘Grenade’ singer.
You just go, ‘How the fuck did we get on the same bill as him?’ And then you realise that if you’re playing the same bill as those people, then it’s the right festival for them and the wrong festival for you. You should move. It’s not them.
Portishead are due to play at the second night of their All Tomorrow’s Parties offshoot I’ll Be Your Mirror tonight (July 24).
The events are named ‘I’ll Be Your Mirror’ after the B-side to The Velvet Underground‘s song from which All Tomorrow’s Parties takes its name.
The festival will also take place in the US Asbury Park in New Jersey on October 1 and 2, before Portishead play a dozen dates across North America.
