Atomic Kitten, BRMC and Bob Geldof are among those checking out the new Islington venue...

PRIMAL SCREAM played the first ever show in LONDON’s new-look MARQUEE CLUB last night (September 5), in front of a crowd of that includedATOMIC KITTEN, rock’s new royal couple GAVIN ROSSDALE and GWEN STEFANI, [/a]and Brit-art enfant terrible DAMIEN HIRST.

The show raised the curtain on the club, opening in its new Islington home after the West End venue closed in 1996. The £4 million venue is owned by Eurythmics guitarist Dave Stewart and Mark Fuller, the entrepreneur behind London’s Sugar Reef and Embassy club. It is a distance away from the cramped, sweaty Soho dive that helped launch the careers of everyone from the Rolling Stones and The Who to U2. The new 1,200 capacity club boasts a restaurant run by Michelin-starred chef and a special celebs-only gallery to keep the great and the good from the paying plebs. There is also a lift installed for roadies.

Primal Scream seemed reluctant to leave the stage, aware of the Marquee Club’s rich heritage. They played at least three encores.

Those on the huge guest-list who popped along to see the Primals and the club also included [a], BBC Radio 1 DJ Sara Cox, her husband, superstar DJ Jon Carter, Live Aid hero turned successful entrepreneur Bob Geldof, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, former champion jockey Richard Dunwoody and Amen’s Casey Chaos.
