The band preview new LP 'Evil Heat' at Shepherd's Bush Empire...

PRIMAL SCREAM debuted tracks from forthcoming new album ‘EVIL HEAT’ during a comeback LONDON show last night (July 19) that served as a warm-up for their round of summer festival appearances.

The band, augmented by former My Bloody Valentine hero Kevin Shields acting now as semi-permanent guitarist, opened the sell-out Shepherd’s Bush Empire set with forthcoming single ‘Miss Lucifer’. The band also premiered ‘Rise’ and ‘City’ – their reworking of the David Holmes track ‘Sick City’.

During the 16-song set, which pulled heavily on 2000’s’Exterminator’ LP (‘Shoot Speed Kill Light’, ‘Swastika Eyes’, ‘Kill All Hippies’), frontman Bobby Gillespie was in playful mood. bassist Dee Dee. The New York punk theme was carried on into the encore when the Primals, joined by former Jesus And Mary Chain frontman Jim Reid, covered the Johnny Thunders’ classic ‘Born To Lose’.

Celebrities in the audience included Radio One DJ Sara Cox and fashion designer Alexander McQueen.

Primal Scream play a second sold-out night at Shepherd’s Bush tonight (June 20). They begin their summer assault at the T In The Park and Witnness festivals over the weekend of July 13 and 14.

‘Evil Heat’ is released on August 5. ‘Miss Lucifer’ precedes it on July 22.
