Prince to perform at Super Bowl

Diminutive star will provide the half-time entertainment

Prince has been confirmed as the half-time entertainment at the 2007 Super Bowl, which will take place this Sunday (February 4) in Miami.

The notoriously media-shy singer avoided interviews at a press conference held yesterday (February 1), and instead performed three songs for the cameras as a taster for Sunday’s show.

Miami resident Gloria Estefan will perform at the pre-game ceremony, while Billy Joel will this year sing the national nnthem, making him the first artist ever to sing it twice at the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl Sunday is the highlight of the US sporting year, and last year was watched by 141 million people in the US alone, making it the country’s most watched TV event of 2006.

In 2004, Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake caused outrage when Jackson bared her breast during their half-time performance, leading to an investigation by the Federal Communications Commission.
