Watch as unreleased Prince music is played at a Versace fashion show in Milan

Star was close friends with fashion icon Donatella Versace

Previously unreleased music from Prince was played during a Versace fashion show in Milan over the weekend.

Recent reports suggested that unheard Prince music could feature in an upcoming musical. Now, an unreleased song by Prince was played during Versace Men’s SS17 show at Milan Fashion Week.

As Dazed reports, Prince was friends with fashion icon Donatella Versace and wrote the song in question as a “personal gift” to her. Versace told Billboard that the star “had been sending me songs for years–it was his way of communicating”. She went on to say that the last time Prince sent her a song was just five months ago.

“It was a privilege and an honour to have Prince as my friend, and so it was my privilege to be able to share [the unreleased music] with the audience,” Versace added. “I wanted people to hear how playful he was, how joyous, how creative, how pure a genius. The biggest tribute you can pay to him is to play his music, and to keep his memory alive.”

Prince passed away in April from what was later confirmed as an overdose of prescription drugs.

Following his death, albums of rare music have already been licenced for streaming on Tidal, the streaming service which Prince spoke approvingly of in August 2015 as he felt it supported artists more than its rivals.
