The NBC show will take a look back at clips of the late singer
Saturday Night Live will screen a tribute to Prince tonight (April 23).
The US TV show tweeted yesterday that the special episode would be airing, titled ‘Goodnight Sweet Prince’, as revealed by the Hollywood Reporter.
Clips of the late singer’s previous appearances on SNL will be screened, including one from 1981, another from 2006 and Prince’s last performance on the show in 2014 when comedy actor Chris Rock was hosting.
Since Prince’s passing on Thursday April 21, music channels including MTV and VH1 have screened the singer’s videos and film, Purple Rain, and American sitcom New Girl is also planning to re-run the episode n which Prince cameos.
The cause of Prince’s death has yet to be reported. Yesterday (April 22) it was revealed that Prince’s autopsy has been completed, but that the cause of death could remain unknown for weeks.
Medical examiners in Minnesota spent four hours on the procedure before releasing the body back to the singer’s family.
A representative for the Midwest medical examiner’s office told TMZ that the authorities were still collecting the singer’s medical records, as well as a broader family medical history, in order to finalise their investigation into Prince’s sudden death aged just 57 at his studios in Chanhassen, on the outskirts of Minneapolis.
A full picture of what killed Prince would “likely take weeks”, according to a statement released to the press.
“As part of a complete exam, relevant information regarding Mr Nelson’s medical and social history will be gathered. Anything which could be relevant to the investigation will be taken into consideration,” said a previous release.
He is reported to have been found unresponsive in a lift, and though paramedics attempted CPR at the scene, they were unable to revive him, according to information released by the local sheriff’s office. He was pronounced dead at 10:07am, less than half an hour after emergency services first received a call.
