Priscilla Presley opens up on Elvis Presley’s battles with drugs before his death

"You did not tell Elvis Presley what to do".

Priscilla Presley has claimed that Elvis was well aware of the risks associated with taking drugs before he died in 1977.

In a new interview, the 72-year-old claims that the music icon ““knew what he was doing” before he died from a drug-related heart attack at the age of 42.

Speaking of his battles with addiction in an upcoming documentary, Elvis’ ex-wife says: “People go, well why didn’t anyone do anything? Well, that’s not true.

“People there in the inner group did, but you did not tell Elvis Presley what to do. You did not. I mean, you’d be out of there faster than a scratched cat. They would try and no way.”

The revelation from Presley, who was married to Elvis from 1967 until 1973, comes after Elvis’ battles with depression were discovered last year.

Last December, two notes from Elvis to his friend and road manager Joe Esposito were unearthed.

One reads : “I’m sick and tired of my life.”

Describing the note, Presley’s stepbrother Rick Stanley said: “The handwritten note appears to be genuine. To me, it’s a clear indication that suicide was on his mind.”

Despite his death being confirmed in 1977, rumours continually persist that the singer is still alive – with conspiracy theorists claiming to have witnessed ‘sightings’ of the singer every year.
