Nope, it isn't quite April 1 yet...

SEAN ‘PUFFY’ COMBS has declared his intention to change his name following his recent acquittal on gun-possession and bribery charges in the US.

Speaking to MTV news, Combs said that from June he wants to be known as P. Diddy – a nickname he has used in the past and given to him by the late Notorious BIG.

He said: “No more Puff Daddy – the first week in June we’re gonna have a name change ceremony. I’m not doing it as serious as Prince (but) I just want something fresh…I’m rockin’ with P. Diddy now – my man Biggie gave me that name.”

His acquittal earlier in the month relates to an incident inside a New York nightclub in December 1999. Now, Combs plans to take a short hiatus from the music industry “just to be Sean Combs, (to) have time to think about what’s the next level I want to play on.”

Elsewhere, he said he has no bad feeling toward fellow defendant Jamal ‘Shyne’ Barrow , who was present at the incident in the New York nightclub and found guilty on various charges, including assault and gun possession.

In an interview following the trial, Shyne claimed that there were “no boundaries to what he (Combs) would do to exonerate himself.”

However, Combs said he plans to visit Shyne, who is awaiting sentencing in prison. He said: “He’s young, very talented. He’s definitely somebody whose life shouldn’t be wasted – I don’t abandon anybody.”
