A date has been set for Sean 'Puffy' Combs...
SEAN ‘PUFFY’ COMBS is finally set to stand trial on the charge of Criminal Possession Of A Firearm on January 2, NEW YORK STATE SUPREME COURT JUDGE CHARLES SOLOMON ruled yesterday (September 28).
The charge stems from an incident on December 27 last year when Combs and girlfriend Jennifer Lopez were questioned by police after being stopped fleeing a New York City nightclub where a shooting had taken place.
A 9mm handgun was found on the floor of the people-carrier the couple and two other men – Puffy’s bodyguard Anthony ‘Wolf’ Jones and rapper Jamal ‘Shyne’ Barrow – were travelling in.
Both Jones and Barrow face the Criminal Possession charge, while Barrow faces an additional charge of Attempted Murder, related to the shooting in which three people were wounded.
Besieged by autograph hunters, Combs turned up to his court appearance late, prompting criticism from opposing counsel.
Judge Solomon ordered that he and his co-defendants appear at both pre-trial hearings on November 2 and December 11. A plea from Shyne’s lawyer that he be excused court appearances until trial date as he has promotional duties to undertake for his debut album ‘Shyne’ (released in the US on September 26) was rejected.
Following the hearing, Combs told reporters he was glad to finally have a trial date.
