Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme has said that he was ‘drunk’ and ‘misunderstood’ when he said “fuck Imagine Dragons and fuck the Grammys”.
The singer ripped into both Imagine Dragons and the Grammy Awards during a gig in Texas last month. He introduced Queens Of The Stone Age track ‘I Appear Missing’ by joking, “This next song is by Imagine Dragons” and, when the crowd heckled, he added: “Fuck everything. Fuck the man. Fuck Imagine Dragons and fuck the Grammys.” LA band Imagine Dragons took home the Grammy for Best Rock Performance with their single ‘Radioactive’ at January’s ceremony. They beat Queens Of The Stone Age in the category, who were nominated for their track ‘My God Is The Sun’.
Now, in an interview with Faster Louder, Homme has explained the incident in Texas by saying he was ‘drunk’. Asked if he would play the Grammy Awards again, after his performance with Trent Reznor, Dave Grohl and Lindsey Buckingham was cut short on the show’s television broadcast, he spoke about what happened in Texas.
He said: “I’d play anywhere, I don’t care about the drama. I got misunderstood for something I said when I was reacting to someone in the audience recently, and not to mention I was really drunk. But the truth is that I’m a musician, I play my music. I don’t really worry about the rest, and I don’t think it’s necessary to worry or sweat the rest of this stuff. Just go and play your music… I don’t like to be disrespected, but nobody likes that.” Addressing the original question, he commented: “Yeah, if they got their shit together, maybe.”
Homme recently said that his band will record the follow-up to 2013’s ‘…Like Clockwork’ later this year. Asked by Rolling Stone if they’d be recording another album soon, Homme commented: “Absolutely. We have more than enough songs. We’re booked ’til September, but after that we plan to jump in the studio and get going.”
Queens Of The Stone Age will headline this summer’s Reading and Leeds Festivals.
