Queens Of The Stone Age cover Amy Winehouse at LA show

Band watched by Morrissey and Jack White as they perform songs from new album '...Like Clockwork'

Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme last night (May 23) sang a snippet of Amy Winehouse’s ‘Rehab’ during the band’s first North American show of the year, in front of a crowd which included Morrissey and Jack White.

As has previously happened during past shows, Homme broke into the opening lines of ‘Rehab’ during the band’s classic track ‘Feel Good Hit Of The Summer’, singing “They try to make me go to rehab, I say no, no, no…”, after randomly doing an impromptu impression of the child from The Shining.

The show, which took place at Los Angeles’ Wiltern venue, opened with a three-song solo set from Queens Of The Stone Age associate Alain Johannes, and then saw the band performing to a sold out crowd. The concert, which was being video streamed live by US radio network NPR, saw the band play a host of new material from their forthcoming new album ‘…Like Clockwork’, including ‘My God Is The Sun’, ‘If I Had A Tail’, ‘Kalopsia’, ‘I Appear Missing’ and ‘Keep Your Eyes Peeled’. They also played a number of classic tracks such as ‘Song For The Dead’, ‘First It Giveth’, ‘No One Knows’ and ‘Make It Wit Chu’.

“I’m quite excited to play for you,” said Homme mid-way through the concert. “I coudn’t be more excited. Fucking ecstatic is the word.” The frontman then raised a toast to Los Angeles, saying: “To our die hard fans, our friends who’ve never been to a show in their fucking lives and our family. Thank you so much, it’s like we’re playing in our back yard, y’know?”

Despite the fact that ‘…Like Clockwork’ features a number of guest artists, such as Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys, Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters and Dave Grohl and Elton John, none joined the band onstage. New drummer Jon Theodore, however, received a huge cheer when he was introduced by Homme to the capacity crowd.
