R KELLY MAKES BRIEF COURT APPEARANCE

Dozens of fans support the singer outside a Chicago courthouse...

R Kelly entered a plea of not guilty during a brief court appearance today (June 26) on 21 charges of child pornography.

The star remained silent during the hearing, at Chicago’s Cook County Criminal Courthouse, allowing one of his lawyers to enter his plea. Wearing a blue suit and red tie, R Kelly heard the judge set a hearing date of August 7.

Dozens of the R&B singer’s fans, many of them carrying placards, voiced their support outside the courthouse. CNN reports that a number of them got into a shouting match with critics of R Kelly.

The star remains free on bail pending his trial. He was arrested at one of his homes in Florida earlier this month. The 21 charges stem from a videotape that is said to show the embattled singer having sex with a 14-year-old girl. The 26-minute tape was sent anonymously to the Chicago Sun-Times in February. The paper then turned the video over to the police.

If convicted, R Kelly faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of $100,000.
