R Kelly’s much-delayed autobiography ‘Soula Coaster’ will be released, publisher insists

Tome set to hit the shelves in the spring

R Kelly‘s much-delayed autobiography will be released in spring 2012, his publisher has confirmed.

The tome, titled Soula Coaster: The Diary Of Me, was first announced in December 2009, but has been hit by a series of delays. Now publisher SmileyBooks has told Village Voice:

R Kelly‘s upcoming memoir is indeed still coming out and is slated for a spring 2012 release.

The memoirs have predictably caused controversy given the soul singer’s well-publicised court battles. US TV host Tavis Smiley, head of SmileyBooks, was accused of sponsoring an “accused paedophile” by bloggers on the What About Our Daughters? site shortly after its release was announced.

Meanwhile, in a press release put out in 2009, R Kelly said he wanted to release the book as he was “tired of being misunderstood”.

“I will open my heart and reveal the good in my life as well as all the drama. I want to tell it like it is,” he said.

The singer is also readying a new album, which he said earlier this year would be titled ‘Black Panties’ and see him return to the sound of his 1993 debut solo record ’12 Play’.
