R. Kelly released from jail after child support payment

The singer reportedly contacted a "benefactor" to raise the $160K he owed his ex-wife in child support

R. Kelly has been released from jail after paying his unpaid child support, it has been reported.

Taken into custody on Wednesday (March 6) while attending a hearing over unpaid child support, it was reported Kelly owed his ex-wife Andrea Kelly more than $161,000 (£122.2k).

According to TMZ, the singer has now paid the $161,633 he owed, and was released today from Cook County Jail.

Sources connected to Kelly stated he raised the funds with help from a “benefactor.”

As he walked out, Kelly said, “I promise we’re gonna straighten all this out. That’s all I can say right now. I love my fans.”

The star was released on bail last month after being charged with sexually abusing four women. He faces 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse and is awaiting trial.

Earlier this week (March 6), Kelly gave his first major interview since being arrested over the sexual abuse allegations. He denied the claims once again, saying: “Whether they’re old rumours, new rumours, future rumours – not true.”

“How stupid would it be for me, with my crazy past and what I’ve been through – oh right now I just think I need to be a monster, and hold girls against their will, chain them up in my basement, and don’t let them eat, and don’t let them out,” he added.

Meanwhile, Joycelyn Savage – one of Kelly’s “girlfriends” whose parents claim is being held against her will – contacted her family for the first time in two years following the interview. “I have told you guys a million, million times that I am OK where I am and I’m happy, so I just want to let you know that,” she told her parents and sisters.
