Jameela Jamil becomes first solo female presenter of Radio 1’s Official Chart Show

Reggie Yates, Vernon Kay to leave Radio 1 in BBC presenter shake-up

Jameela Jamil is set to become the first solo female presenter of Radio 1’s Official Chart Show.

Jamil will replace current presenter, Reggie Yates, who will leave the station in January, to front a new show which will be partly presented onscreen on the Radio 1 website, with the Top 10 videos being shown in full.

Speaking about her appointment, Jameela Jamil said: “I am absolutely delighted and honoured. I’m fully aware that I have big shoes to fill and am so excited to get started. I’ve grown up listening to the official chart so I cannot thank Radio 1 enough for the amazing opportunity.”

Yates, who has presented Radio 1’s Official Chart Show for five years has said he has “decided to move on to concentrate on other work including a new documentary series for BBC Three and film projects”.

He added: “I have absolutely loved my time hosting the Chart Show. It’s been a privilege to deliver to the nation the weekly Number One song, but after 10 years at Radio 1/1Xtra I am looking forward to focusing on other projects and new challenges.”

Meanwhile, presenter Vernon Kay will also be departing after nine-and-a-half years at the station. Mat Edmondson will take over Kay’s 10am-1pm Saturday slot as well as Sara Cox’s Sunday Show, as she moves to replace Fearne Cotton on her weekday slot as she goes on maternity leave.

Elsewhere, YouTube sensations Dan and Phil will present a brand new “fully visual” Sunday night Radio 1 request show, where they will mix humour and music while Tom Deacon takes over Mat Edmondson’s vacated 9pm Wednesday comedy show.
