BBC Radio 1 DJ dies

Former breakfast show host Kevin Greening passes away

Former BBC Radio 1 breakfast show DJ Kevin Greening has died suddenly aged 44.

Greening‘s agent Chris North confirmed his client died “peacefully” in his sleep on Saturday (December 29), but gave no further details.

Greening joined BBC Radio 1 from Virgin in 1994 and hosted the breakfast show with Zoe Ball from 1997 to 1998.

After leaving BBC Radio 1, Greening worked at BBC Radio 5 Live, the BBC World Service and London stations including Jazz FM, Heart 106.2 and XFM.

His last job was at London‘s Smooth Radio.

BBC Radio 5 Live‘s Simon Mayo, also a former BBC Radio 1 DJ, was among the first to pay tribute to Greening.

He told the BBC: “He was quite shy – sometimes a bit embarrassed about achieving the level of fame he had.

“The work that he put in to his programmes was fantastic. He was very meticulous. He was just a fantastic example and naturally gifted.”
