Hosts say they are "refusing to give him a platform"
West has repeatedly come under fire in recent weeks after praising Trump, criticising Obama, meeting with controversial right-wing pundit Candace Owens and, earlier this week, appearing to describe slavery as a “choice”.
BiGG & Shay Shay from The Morning Bounce on Detroit’s 105.1 The Bounce announced the decision on Facebook after discussing West’s remarks on their show.
“We feel like Kanye has gone too far with his latest statement declaring that ‘slavery was a choice'”, they wrote.
“We are over it. We don’t want to hear Kanye’s music, we don’t want to play Kanye on our show, we don’t want to talk about Kanye anymore. So we are taking a stand and we aren’t playing his music anymore; we just are refusing to give him a platform.”
A petition recently called for Adidas to sever ties with Kanye over the comments. The company’s CEO Kasper Rorsted responded by saying: “Kanye has been and is a very important part of our strategy. He’s been a fantastic creator, and that’s where I’m going to leave it.”
While Will.I.Am said that Kanye’s slavery comments “broke” his heart, Justin Bieber recently offered his support to West, saying that we should “love” even if we don’t “agree”.
On Tuesday (May 1), West told TMZ: “I’m a black person, a [member] of the black community, but I’m not just that. I’m always gonna represent that, but I also represent the world.”
“When you hear about slavery for 400 years, for 400 years?! That sounds like a choice,” he went on argue. “We’re mentally imprisoned.”
West later clarified his views on Twitter, saying: “Of course I know that slaves did not get shackled and put on a boat by free will.”
“My point is for us to have stayed in that position even though the numbers were on our side means that we were mentally enslaved,” he added.
Kim Kardashian’s mother Kris Jenner has shared her view on Kanye’s slavery comments, saying: “I know that he will explain himself in his own way”.
Meanwhile, Kanye is said to have returned to Wyoming to finish work on his new album. Here’s everything we know about his record so far.
