...But thousands of fans still turn up expecting a band event
Radiohead‘s new album broadcast in Tokyo was cancelled because of security fears.
NME understands that frontman Thom Yorke had been set to announce the new record with a broadcast on Hachiko Square in Shibuya at 6:59pm (JST), which would be 9:59am UK time.
However, due to security concerns the broadcast was canned, reports Time Out Tokyo. Despite the cancellation, many Radiohead fans (pictured) turned up to the location expecting some kind of appearance.
“I can’t believe they got us all out here and then cancelled it,” fan Yukimi Watanabe, who had been waiting in the square for an hour, told NME. “But it’s a really fun vibe. There are loads of other Radiohead fans to hang out with.”
“It’s a shame they couldn’t go through with the show,” another fan, Hiroshi Sato, said. “We’re gonna
head to a karaoke booth and sing ‘Creep’ instead!”
A song from the new album, ‘Lotus Flower’, has been posted on YouTube by the band.
