Phil Selway does the honours at the building in his native Oxford...

Radiohead star PHIL SELWAY has taken time out to open a new SAMARITANS centre in his hometown of OXFORD.

The drummer, who has been involved with The Samaritans since the 80s, turned up late last week (February 8) to open the centre in Magdalen Road, Oxford.

He told BBC news: “It’s a very impressive place. For an organisation that’s based on volunteers it’s incredibly professionally run. I think this comes across in the centre.

“Because of the profile of the band I’ve been able to highlight the good work of the Samaritans. For me, Radioheadand the Samaritans are polar opposites. They don’t feed into each other but they do provide a good contrast.”

Radioheadare currently resting and working on new material.
