El-P confirms he will head to Los Angeles to make music with former Rage Against The Machine frontman
Run The Jewels member El-P has revealed that he will work on new material with former Rage Against The Machine frontman Zack de la Rocha in 2015.
The singer began work on solo material but has not released a studio album since Rage Against The Machine split in 2000. However, he appears on the latest Run The Jewels album ‘RTJ2’ on a song titled ‘Close Your Eyes (And Count To Fuck)’.
Speaking at an in store event at Rough Trade East in London on Tuesday night (December 9), the duo were asked if they thought that working on the song might prompt more material to come from the frontman.
El-P answered the question, saying: “In 1999 I spent a month in my apartment in Brooklyn with Zack de la Rocha just before he split Rage Against The Machine, working on music that will never see the light of day. I can’t speak about his future but I will say that I’m going to LA to spend another month with him in January.”
Elsewhere during the Q+A, El-P and Killer Mike spoke about releasing their latest album during a period of racial tension in America, Meow The Jewels and what their process of recording together in the studio is like. Killer Mike was asked when they begin work on new music together, to which he said: “Run The Jewels 3. We start work in January.”
Run The Jewels play a one-off London date at KOKO tomorrow night (December 12). They will return in 2015 with a gig at The Forum scheduled for June. They are also one of the first acts confirmed for Reading & Leeds Festival next year.
