The organiser of the Facebook campaign to get Rage Against The Machine to the Christmas Number One slot has said that the song can still top the charts despite Joe McElderry‘s single going on physical sale today (December 16).
Jon Morter‘s campaign to get ‘Killing In The Name’ to the chart summit ahead of The X Factor winner’s ‘The Climb’ has started well, with the song beating McElderry‘s as of yesterday (15).
With ‘The Climb’ hitting the shops today on physical formats, however, many are predicting that it will overtake ‘Killing In The Name’. Morter has asked campaigners to remain positive throughout the week.
“Yes we can do it!” he told NME.COM. “We just need to keep bringing in the numbers of people to let them know what we’re doing. Be positive… those that just say ‘don’t bother’ as it’s ‘a waste of time trying’ aren’t the sort of people who can make a difference here.”
He added that despite his positive attitude he wouldn’t be too disheartened if the campaign was unsuccessful.
“If it actually hit Number One I’d log into the group and thank everyone for their hard work and dedication,” he said. “Even if we didn’t quite succeed it will still be a great achievement in bringing people together and actually trying to do something.”
Simon Cowell has slammed the Facebook campaign, calling it “stupid”, “cynical” and “very Scrooge“.
