The former RATM man gets political in a much quieter way than normal - with the Bard Of Barking...
Former RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist TOM MORELLO is to take a break from new band AUDIOSLAVE and head out on an acoustic tour of the US with veteran social firebrand BILLY BRAGG.
The ‘Tell Us The Truth’ tour will take the pair, accompanied by Lester Chambers, on 14 dates through the US in November.
Morello will perform under the name Nightwatchman.
“It’s very stripped down and Woody Guthrie-esque, sort of early [a][/a] ‘The Times They Are A-Changin’ ‘ kind of show,” Morello said. “It’s unlikely that there will be any moshpits, but one never knows.”
Describing his Nightwatchman alter ego, Morello added: “He is an artist of the people. Media consolidation needs smashing and globalization needs unmasking, and that is what the Nightwatchman is called to do on this tour, and he will respond to that challenge.”
According to MTV, Morello will be playing songs he has written specifically for the tour. Morello has always been a social and political activist. He believes the tour is essential is remind people of the problems with, amongst other things, George Bush.
“I’m certain Bush won’t be re-elected,” he said. “From the economy being in the toilet to American kids dying every day in a war we should never have gotten into, that’s not a very solid resume. All of his personal jack-assed-ness aside, the one thing that was clear at the end of the day is that The Dixie Chicks were right. They had every right to be embarrassed that that guy is from Texas.”
