The two gigs to be held in New York on the late Joey Ramone's birthday (May 19) will raise money for charity...

Two events are being planned in NEW YORK to commemorate what would have been Ramones singer JOEY RAMONE’s 51st birthday.

Ramone passed away a year ago (April 15) after losing a long battle with lymphatic cancer. He was 49.

According to Billboard in the US, a tribute concert at the New York Bowery Ballroom is being organised for May 19 by his mother Charlotte Lesher and brother Mickey Leigh. The intention is to raise money for the Joey Ramone Cure for Lymphoma Fund. Bands are currently unconfirmed.

Also, at the legendary CBGB nightclub Ramones creative director Arturo Vega is organising the Bowery Electric Festival. Bands are being asked to submit tracks inspired by Joey, the best given the opportunity to perform on the night.

Vega said: “We actually have an open stage invitation for Joey’s friends to come and do whatever they want – to just say a few words or do whatever they do.”
