Rapper 6ix9ine (also known as Tekashi69) has been arrested by police in New York in relation to a outstanding warrant from Texas.
The arrest is believed to be connected to an alleged altercation that occurred in January 2018. A 16-year-old claimed that they were choked by the musician, real name Daniel Hernandez, at Houston’s Galeria Mall.
Representatives for the rapper are yet to comment on the arrest.
The star’s arrest was initially reported by TMZ, before subsequent confirmation from the New York Police Department.
He was reportedly detained by police at JFK Airport as he returned from his European tour.
Although achieving prominence with the song ‘Gummo’, 6ix9ine’s career has been fraught with legal issues.
In 2015, he pled guilty to a felony count of a use of a child in a sexual performance.
The charge originated from videos that featured a 13-year-old girl.
In one video, she is seen naked and sitting in the rapper’s lap. In another, Hernandez is seen “making a thrusting motion with his pelvis and smacking her on her buttocks“ while the girl performed oral sex on another man.
In May this year, he was also detained for assaulting a police officer and driving without a license.
