Johnny Borrell announces low-key solo dates

Newly solo singer will hit the road in June

Johnny Borrell has announced a series of low-key dates as his launches his new solo career.

The former Razorlight former Razorlight frontman announced earlier this year that his band are to be put on hold while he concentrates on his solo career. The singer has been playing low-key shows as a solo artist in recent weeks and has today (May 24) announced details of seven small gigs, including a date at London’s legendary 100 Club. Starting in Southampton on June 11, Borrell will play also gigs in Aldershot, Bristol, York, Birmingham and Leicester.

Explaining how he is “removed from all the commerciality and the circus of rock’n’roll”, Borrell told Oui FM: “We had gone to the South Of France to a small house in the Pays Basque last year and the music just came very naturally. It’s an album that was born in the spirit of a party, and the arrangements for the songs come from that atmosphere. When music works it’s like love, you can’t force it and thats what happened with this. I’m so happy that it’s come about this way. I’m really happy that this record has come about in this way and happy to have made the record.”
