Beth Ditto strips off at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival

The Gossip bring out the sun for nudie Main Stage show

The Gossip got the Main Stage crowd dancing today (August 24) at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival, in a show which saw lead singer Beth Ditto strip down to her underwear in the sun.

The band took the stage ten minutes later than scheduled, at 15:50 GMT, after roadies were delayed assembling their instrument set-up.

Despite having to make the crowd wait, the band got the audience in high spirits with a high-octane set, including crowd favourites ‘Listen Up’, ‘Jealous Girls’, ‘Yr Mangled Heart’ and ‘Standing In The Way Of Control’.

Singer Beth Ditto was wearing a sparkly pink and purple dress and hat combo, and one minute into the set hitched up the dress around her waist to reveal her black underwear and legs.

Before playing ‘Jason’s Basement’, Ditto sang the lines from Haddaway’s ‘What Is Love (Baby Don’t Hurt Me No More)’, changing the lyric to, “When is lunch? Baby I’m hungry”.

Later in the set, after playing ‘Listen Up’, Ditto sang lines from ‘Rehab’ by Amy Winehouse.

The set ended with a mass singalong to ‘Standing In The Way Of Control’, during which Ditto peeled off her dress, prompting mass cheering from the crowd. The singer then bent over with her backside facing the audience, gave the ‘single finger’ gesture between her legs, then left the stage to rapturous cheering with her band.
