Reading And Leeds Festival boss set for charity bike ride

Melvin Benn gets his cycling shoes on for five day trek across Kenya

Reading And Leeds Festival boss Melvin Benn is to take part in a charity bike ride across Africa.

The Festival Republic managing director, who is also the patron of Kenyan Orphan Project, will join over 50 riders for a five-day 435km cycle entitle ‘Making Tracks’ from Nairobi to Kisumu.

The trip, which takes place next month, aims to raise £100,000, half of which has already been raised.

Earlier this year, Benn visited Kenya to view projects which have been supported by money raised throughout the 2009 festival season, from Latitude and Reading And Leeds Festivals.

Working in partnership with KOP and One Water, Festival Republic donations have helped fund the installation of two fresh water pumps in the area.
