Grammy winners hit top of charts

US album sales rise significantly

The Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles last week (February 11) have apparently given a strong jolt to US album sales.

This week, albums by several Grammy winners and performers including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dixie Chicks, Justin Timberlake and British singer-songwriter Corinne Bailey Rae, have climbed the US Billboard charts and have seen exponential sales increases.

The Dixie Chicks, who took home five Grammys, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year, saw sales of their CD, ‘Taking the Long Way’, increase by more than 700 per-cent, for a total of 103,000 copies sold.

Sales of the Red Hot Chili Peppers‘Stadium Arcadium’ jumped 194 per cent and the album hit the Number 12 spot on the charts.

Timberlake took the Number Seven slot and saw sales of his album ‘FutureSex/LoveSounds’ increase 123 per cent.

Bailey Rae hit the Number Four slot, selling 120,00 copies – a 132 per cent increase.

Another testament to the power of the Grammys, the Number Three spot on the charts belongs to the ‘2007 Grammy Nominees CD’, which features songs from nominated artists including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gnarls Barkley, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera and Keane.
